For the past five years Mrs. Saltarelli has considered herself fortunate to be the principal at Mayes Elementary School. One year prior to arriving in Beal City she was an Assistant Principal and Special Education Director at Farwell Area Schools. Mrs. Saltarelli was a general and special education teacher at Alma Middle School for 13 years. She also taught for nine years at Maplewood Elementary School in Lima, Ohio. Mrs. Saltarelli received her high school diploma and Associate’s Degree from schools in New York State. She graduated from Hastings College in Nebraska where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in elementary and special education. Her Master’s Degree in Elementary School Administration was completed at CMU.
Mrs. Saltarelli and her husband, Bill, live in Mt. Pleasant with their lazy, but loveable dog Oscar. Bill is a professor in the Allied Health professions at CMU. Their son, Andy, is a Ph.D. candidate at MSU. Andy and his wife, Patty, have a delightful daughter named Maddy. Diane and Bill’s daughter, Katelyn, is presently attending graduate school at CMU to become a physician’s assistant.
Mrs. Saltarelli loves to read, travel, and shop for fun stuff for Maddy. Biking and walking are two of her favorite activities. Mrs. Saltarelli is fond of being in Beal City because it reminds her of the small, rural community where she grew up in central New York. She also loves the excellent staff, terrific students, and supportive community that make her job a pleasure.
Linda Fussman - Elementary Secretary
Mrs. Linda Fussman has been employed as the Mayes Elementary School secretary since 1989. Prior to that time she worked for Farm Bureau Insurance for six years. She graduated from Chippewa Hills Schools and has continued to reside in the area since childhood.
Mrs. Fussman and her husband Steve recently moved into a beautiful new home in Mecosta. Steve used his skills as a self-employed mason to complete the stone exterior of their home. Steve and Linda have foursons: Bryce, Andy and Nick all work in the family business; and Chris who is employed by South Eastern Michigan Health Association in Lansing. The Fussmans enjoy spending time with their five grandchildren: Mitchell, Chloe and Jack are the children of Bryce and Mary; Spencer and Natalie's parents are Nick and Emily.
Mrs. Fussman has many hobbies and interests. She and her family are avid NASCAR racing fans. In addition to traveling to various race tracks, Steve and Linda have visited Las Vegas to see Celine Dion, been on an Alaskan cruise, and plan to try to spend their 35th anniversary in Hawaii. Listening to country and oldies music as well as reading any and all books are popular pastimes as well. Mrs. Fussman's favorite food is anything resembling a dessert, especially if it's chocolate.
