Two down, one to go! The Beal City boys’ and girls’ Cross Country teams topped the Conference in Highland Jamboree #2 last night at Lake City. Added to both teams’ wins in Jam #1, this means that Beal City will look to lock down a first ever Highland Championship for the boys and a fourth straight for the girls at Jam #3. In addition, Nick Pung and Emily Steffke, with wins in both Jamborees, have already earned Individual Conference Championships! The boys placed four in the top-10 and all five scorers in the top-15 to score 36, versus 62 for second place Evart, while the Lady Aggies had four in the top-5 and #5 at 10th to post just 23 points and best runner-up Manton by 45. Emily’s win came in a lifetime best 19:21.0 with Hayley Neyer (3rd, 20:48.2) and Ariel Salter (4th, 20:50.8) both posting lifetime marks, as well. James Kolb (9th, 17:59.7) took 14 seconds off his best race ever as he broke 18:00 minutes for the first time. Season bests by Zach Bellinger (15th, 18:24.7), Apollo Schafer (20th, 18:50.7), and Oscar Diaz (23rd, 19:04.3) added to what was an excellent showing by both Beal City teams. Great job, Aggies!

Beal City’s Jr. High Cross Country runners competed at Highland Conference Jamboree #2 in Lake City yesterday. Alex Taylor moved from 8th in Jam #1 to 4th at Lake City in an excellent 11:27.2 on the 1.9 mile course. Nathan Reihl finished 8th, 6th boy, in 12:20.8 followed by Wannes De Vos in 24th, 12th boy, at 13:37.6 and Amy Schwerin in 29th, 15th girl, at 13:59.0. Team scores were not available after the meet. The Jr. High harriers will toe the line next at the Saranac Color Run next Tuesday.
