Course Descriptions
Which band is your child in?
Divided primarily by grade level, the Beal City Band program has five distinct ensembles that frequently perform on concerts, school athletic and other community events.
Beginning Band - 6th Grade
Designed as the introductory ensemble for the Beal City Bands, this course is offered to interested sixth graders on any instrument of their choosing. Instruments are customarily rented by reputable dealers in our state that service our school programs. Performances are considered a natural outgrowth of the school day activity.
Middle School Band - 7th Grade & 8th Grade
While meetings as separate classes during the school day, the 7th Grade and 8th Grade Bands serve as preparatory ensembles for the high school bands. Quality, ability-level appropriate literature is performed while maintaining student interest in musical achievement. These grades often combine to perform at MSBOA Festival and other concerts as appropriate. Performances, including concerts and Festival, are considered a natural outgrowth of the school day activity.
Students who have not enrolled in Beginning Band must speak with Miss Reynolds before joining. This is to ascertain interest and placement within the ensemble, not to discourage participation.
Concert Band - Grades 9-12
The centerpiece of the Beal City Band Program, this ensemble performs high quality ability-level appropriate literature appealing to students and audiences alike, while maintaining focus on National and State Arts Standards. Special interdisciplinary presentations are often highlights of the school year in addition to performances at concert and athletic events. Performances are considered a natural outgrowth of the school day activity.
Jazz Band - Grades 10-12
Jazz Band is available to all interested band members of 10th grade and beyond who play an instrument traditionally found in the Big Band orchestration: saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, piano, bass and drumset. Performances include concerts, athletic events and other community events. Performances are considered a natural outgrowth of the school day activity.
Occasional waivers can be made for participation by students younger than grade 10. However, enrollment in another band class is mandatory.
