Department Mission and Goals

The Beal City Public Schools recognize that music is an integral part of our curriculum and a critical piece of each student’s education.  Students deserve exposure to a broad music curriculum that recognizes those who will continue their musical study and those who will follow a different path.  By directing musical instruction towards the aspiring musician and the educated citizen, the Beal City Public Schools Music Department will prepare students for continued musical study, as well as equip students for continued enjoyment and appreciation of music.

Department Mission

The mission of the Beal City Public Schools Music Department is to advance the district’s goals by providing a balanced, comprehensive, sequential program of instruction in music.  Highly qualified faculty will present the music curriculum through educational opportunities for the aspiring musician, as well as the broadly educated citizen.

Overarching Goals

The Beal City Public Schools Music Department believes in a comprehensive sequential curriculum based on the National Standards for music education.  Under this curriculum, students of the Beal City Public Schools will be exposed to a multifaceted music education that will address the Michigan Arts Education Standards, including, but not limited to, performance, composition, analysis, and music literacy. Beal City’s sequential program will present musical concepts in a logical order building on one another as they advance through the curriculum.  The Beal City Public Schools Music Department pursues its mission through five overarching goals:

1.       All students will apply skills and knowledge required for music performance.

2.       All students will apply skills and knowledge required to create music.

3.       All students will analyze, describe, and evaluate musical compositions and performances.

4.       All students will understand, analyze, and describe music in its historical, social, and cultural context.

5.       All students will recognize, analyze, and describe connections among the arts; between the arts and other disciplines; between the arts and everyday life.
